Accountability Counsel amplifies the voices of communities around the world to protect their human rights and environment. As advocates for people harmed by internationally-financed projects, Accountability Counsel supports local communities and creates systems to hold internationally-financed development projects—about $500 billion a year—accountable to human rights and environmental standards.
This grant provides general support. Accountability Counsel’s team of lawyers specializes in non-judicial complaint offices, established to receive community complaints. Accountability Counsel works at the grassroots level to provide technical assistance and legal services to assist local communities with effectively using little-known complaint offices tied to projects that cause harm. It works at the policy and system level to advocate for complaint offices that are accessible, independent, transparent, fair, and effective tools for justice, and for new accountability offices where none exist.
