Program Area

The California Alliance for Youth and Community Justice is a network of over 39 multi-racial, multi-generational, and multi-disciplinary organizations that for the past 10 years has been dedicated to creating opportunities for youth to heal and thrive in their communities by ending state violence, criminalization, and incarceration; as well as supporting youth, communities, and families to create their own solutions and alternatives to the criminal legal system. Its coalition members have come together in a unified voice and movement.

The grant supports the work of the California Alliance for Youth and Community Justice, including: developing alternatives to youth incarceration and system involvement through making central the use of community-based, healing-focused, youth development responses to youth accused of a crime; ending the use of incarceration for young people; ending the practice of sending youth to the adult system; and creating a transformative, de-colonized narrative about its communities.
