Founded in 1964, Sacred Heart Community Service’s (Sacred Heart) mission is to build a community free from poverty by creating hope, opportunity, and action. Sacred Heart organizes for social justice to eliminate the root causes of poverty and offers a variety of programs and resources to low-income families and individuals, including essential services and self-sufficiency programs.

This grant supports building resident power in the city of San Jose, California, including: 1) campaigns around a framework of protection, preservation, and production of affordable housing; 2) the development and deployment of the Sacred Heart Leadership Council, whose function is to engage active members in meaningful conversations about organizational strategic planning and policy priorities; and 3) the Solidarity Summit, a yearly meeting for members to be meaningfully involved with and learning from each other, and to coordinate on the most effective means to achieve social and economic justice.
