The current early childhood field lacks adequate funding to support high-quality programs and services to all children. As a result, it cannot uniformly provide quality learning experiences. A fragmented and under-resourced system, and serious access, participation, and opportunity gaps exist.
A higher-quality, better-funded early childhood education field, both nationally and in California, requires increased evidence, advocacy, and investment.
Our grantees deepen the understanding in the field of the cumulative, long-term benefits of early education for children and strategies for improving program effectiveness; communicate the evidence for early childhood education to policy, advocacy, and research organizations; explore ways to expand financing of early childhood education programs and services; and develop policy analysis, advocacy programs, and implementation methods that link competency and compensation for early childhood educators.
