Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees (GCIR), the country’s only immigrant-focused philanthropy-supporting organization, has named Heising-Simons Foundation’s Human Rights Program Director Angie Junck as its new co-chair. Angie has been serving on GCIR’s board since January 2020.
In an opinion piece published in EdSource today, Heising-Simons Foundation Board Chair Liz Simons shares her perspective on California’s Master Plan for Early Learning and Care, announced earlier this month. The piece commends California’s template to build a comprehensive early learning and care system over the next decade, and also recognizes the tremendous strain providers are facing amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

When Dr. Andrea Ghez first proposed conducting research on a supermassive compact object at the center of our galaxy, she says, “people didn’t think it would work.” Earlier this year, and decades in the making, that work led Dr. Ghez to be awarded the 2020 Novel Prize in physics.
