Imara Jones, award-winning journalist and founder of TransLash Media (TransLash), has been named one of TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2023. She joins the ranks of Brittney Griner, King Charles III, and Shannon Watts in the Icons category of TIME’s 2023 list.

Imara spearheads the TransLash Podcast with Imara Jones, a bi-weekly podcast that tells trans stories to save trans lives, as well as The Anti-Trans Hate Machine: A Plot Against Equality podcast, which investigates the people and institutions creating and funding anti-trans legislation in the U.S. Both podcasts are available for listen on the TransLash website, Apple Podcasts, or Spotify.

The Heising-Simons Foundation supports TransLash as part of its journalism portfolio, which invests in journalism leaders and organizations that help increase coverage, stories, and amplification of voices of underrepresented and misrepresented communities.

In 2022, Imara was named one of Politico’s 40 Most Influential People on Race and Politics for her work “peeling back the curtain on the explosive wave of anti-trans legislation.”

The Foundation caught up with Imara that same year for an interview on our blog, where she discussed the role TransLash fills in uplifting the trans community, the history of oppression the trans community has faced in the U.S., and misconceptions about the trans experience in this country.
