Here are some news items that have featured our grantees over the past month: Cyrus Vance and the Myth of the Progressive Prosecutor New York Times, October 16, 2017 Josie Duffy Rice, research director of the Fair Punishment Project (FPP), writes about “progressive” prosecutors across the United States who “get credit for changing the game while continuing draconian practices.” FPP is an initiative housed under The Accountable Justice Collaborative, a grantee of the Foundation’s Human Rights program. South Coast Scientists Receive Large Grant To Build New Telescope KCLU, October 11, 2017 This short audio story spotlights the Las Cumbres Observatory and a recent grant made by the Foundation’s Science program to build a one-meter robotic telescope that will help better monitor the northern sky. Progress Is Possible: How These Funders Are Tackling Gun Violence Inside Philanthropy, October 3, 2017 This roundup of firearm violence prevention efforts in California features the Hope and Heal Fund, a project housed under the New Venture Fund that is supported in part by the Foundation’s Community program. The Hope and Heal Fund brings together experts, community leaders and funders to support creative and effective solutions to gun violence.
