Chelsey Ziegler-Scaffidi is the senior legal counsel at the Heising-Simons Foundation. Chelsey specializes in the law of exempt organizations, serves as a legal liaison to programs, and supports operations and corporate governance across the Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2022, Chelsey was counsel at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation where she focused on legal issues relating to their endowment investments, impact investments, and grantmaking strategies. She was also an associate in the Business and Finance Group at a mid-sized Chicago law firm where she advised private equity funds, venture capital funds and start-up companies on equity financing, debt structures and other corporate matters. In addition, she helped launch the Firm’s first Social Impact and Philanthropy subgroup. Chelsey holds a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State University.
