Dr. Rebecca Gomez Q&A with Child Care Aware of America

“We came so very close to getting a historic entitlement for child care in this country via Build Back Better, [and] even though we did not succeed, I think it’s important to recognize that advocates and organizers have, working in coalition, fundamentally changed the conversation about child care in this country,” said Dr. Rebecca Gomez in a Q&A with grantee Child Care Aware® of America (CCAofA), an organization that works with a national network of more than 500 child care resource and referral agencies and other partners to ensure that all families have access to quality, affordable child care. CCAofA shared the Q&A with its network earlier this week.

Dr. Gomez is a program officer for the Education program at Heising-Simons Foundation, where she leads grantmaking that focuses on federal policy change that will enable children from families with low incomes and children of color to reach their full potential.

In this Q&A, Dr. Gomez shares some stories, challenges, and wins about her trajectory in the early education sector, as well as the Foundation’s role in supporting and fueling real change for our nation’s youngest children and their families.
